This is the second of three discussions about how CIA members have contributed to the profession by working outside of Canada. In this episode, we hear from Mike Hafeman, FCIA, who discusses his extensive international experience, which has taken him to 74 countries, and includes work with diverse locations such as Eritrea, Micronesia, and Eswatini.
A 2020 survey of CIA members shows that just under one third of respondents account for climate change risks in their actuarial work, a proportion similar to that indicated in a 2019 survey. These results point to a continued need in the profession for additional information and guidance on the subject.
A significant number of CIA members have contributed to the profession by working outside of Canada, in many instances using their actuarial skills in developing countries and emerging markets. In the first of three discussions with CIA members doing international work, we hear from Denis Garand, FCIA, as he shares his experiences in this area.
